Training — Common Questions

How long does competency take?

Most single-category courses (Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun) run over 2 days. The Manual (Legal Test) alone takes 1 day.

How much does it cost?

What's the difference between competency and a licence?

Competency is a certified qualification proving you can handle a firearm safely and know the law. A licence is the separate SAPS authorisation to own a specific firearm — competency is a required step toward it.

How long is my competency valid?

Competency certificates are valid for several years from issue. We'll confirm your exact expiry date on your certificate and remind you ahead of renewal.

How do I renew?

Book a renewal course the same way you booked your first — select your course type above and mention it's a renewal in the notes field.

Do you offer group bookings?
